Winterizing Your System

Winter can be a fun time of year, just not for your sprinkler system! Here’s what we do:

  • We make sure the water supply is shut off. This is usually a valve inside the house, but can also be a dedicated water meter. If the system uses a pump and gets its water from a pond or lake, we disable the pump.

  • We connect our professional air compressor to the system main line at a connection point (Most systems have these by the backflow preventer or pump, but we will install one if needed).

  • We will turn on every watering zone and allow the water to be blown out of each zone. We actually go through the system twice just to make sure nothing gets left behind

  • We will remove the backflow preventer if it’s located outside. These are very expensive devices and no one likes to replace them when the seals, internal springs, and brass casing is damaged from freezing water. We will hand the backflow preventer to you once we are finished so you can keep it safe until spring.

  • If your system uses a pump, we will drain it out and remove and drain the suction line from the pond or lake.

That’s it! Your system is ready for hibernation!

I forgot to winterize my system until my neighbor noticed a huge mess on the side of our house!
