Backflow Prevention and Testing

Your backflow preventer is our line of defense against all of the contaminates that can come from above and below ground. It protects all of our drinking water from chemicals, bacteria, mold, pet waste, bird droppings, and a wide range of other contamination that could otherwise enter our public water system.

Besides being a good idea to have a backflow preventer, it is Illinois law that all underground sprinkler systems are required to have a backflow preventer. There are specific types that are allowed and others are not, so leave it up to the professionals to determine the correct type and installation. (Not even all plumbers know which ones to use)

Backflow Testing

The Illinois Department of Public Health requires all backflow preventers to be tested on an annual basis. We offer backflow preventer testing and would be happy to perform the test for you (charges apply). After the test has been done, the results will be passed along to you. We will also keep a copy of the test for our records (just in case you lose them and need another copy). If your backflow preventer failed the testing, that means your backflow preventer is no longer capable of protecting your drinking water! Repair or replacement of your device will be required.

Backflow preventer testing is usually done once the sprinkler system has been activated for the season, since the water needs to be on. We use our fully licensed plumber who is additionally certified to test backflow preventers. Rest assured that as long as you’re testing annually, you are ensuring the safety of all our drinking water.
